Bringing George Watson’s College’s exam results to life

  • Electrify supports George Watson’s College on SQA results comms campaign
  • Animation introduced to illustrate key facts and stats
  • Results are overwhelmingly positive - the best since the exam system changed in 2014

It has been a hugely busy time since we announced our partnership with George Watson's College (GWC), last month.

As well as a major review we've been working on with the team, we've also had some key milestones to think about, the first of these going live, today.

Examination results day is one of the year's most stressful days, and yet for many it ends up being one of happiness and relief.

Given Electrify is all about storytelling we worked with GWC to find a way to tell a story about the results themselves, and show how we can help create a narrative around what life is like at the school.

For us this meant a three-pronged approach for 2018:

  • Drafting a story to be used across the school's digital channels and to be issued to media colleagues
  • Supporting the story via an animation which highlighted some of the key success stories, but provided a supportive message for those for whom the day hasn't been all they would have wished for
  • Developing a suite of social media graphics to highlight some of the key stats and comments supporting this year's results

This new-look approach also included the introduction of specific comments to the pupils themselves from the school's Principal, Melvyn Roffe which were included as part of the overall communications plan.

The good news is that results are extremely positive with a five year pass-rate high, the best results since the examination system in Scotland was reformed in 2014.
